The
Berra Winemakers company dates back to end of the
19th century, when Maurizio Berra's great grandfather
and his brothers, who had been cultivating vineyards,
decided to start
selling their wine. To that end, they
also opened a store in Turin, which unfortunately,
had to close its doors with the advent of the First
World War, as they had all been drafted into the army.
At the end of the First World War the store never
reopened, however the winemaking activity continued
with Maurizio's grandfather
who continued to produce and sell wine wholesale.
When Maurizio's father took over, he started to sell
directly to consumers, as well as wholesale, giving
greater attention to the quality of the final product.
Maurizio
took over the family business in 1996 and, together
with his father while continuing the cultivation of
vineyards, he increased the size of the farmland from
15 to 20 hectares. Additionally, part of the farmland
is dedicated to the production of cereals and seeds,
for a total of 50 hectares.
The company's main focus, nonetheless, remains the
wine making, the vinification process, and the direct
sale to the consumer.
